As a people-focused company, we believe in promoting health and wellness among our employees. As Alexandra Black, Health Promotion Manager at IHRSA (International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association), discovered in her research, the benefits of employee wellness programs include “improvements in physical activity; higher fruit and vegetable consumption; lower fat intake; and a reduction in body weight, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure”–which can all help people simply feel a little better every day.
Since our team always enjoys a little friendly competition, our Health and Wellness Committee recently hosted a “Taking Strides for Better Health Challenge” to encourage our staff to move more throughout each day. The competition consisted of logging any physical activity, like walking, running, or biking, throughout the month of June.
More than half of our employees joined the fun and the competition quickly heated up. The top four competitors averaged 20,000 steps per day–no easy task! The first-place winner, Carl Williams, logged an incredible 582,605 steps, with Jacob Carr and Paul Bradshaw right behind him with 580,776 and 543,119 steps respectively. Way to “step up” to the challenge gentlemen!
We look forward to continuing the momentum with future workplace wellness challenges. After all, our employees are our greatest asset.
